How to use this portal
This is your personal map of IB Chemistry HL — not a textbook and not a revision dump. Use it to see the whole syllabus at once, dig into hard bits early, and track what still feels fragile.
Start here (before you explore freely)
- Do the ~20 hour head-start path on Bridge → Highest-leverage head start. It tells you what to practise first — and what not to pre-learn.
- Open the Spine Map. Click one node. Read the one big idea in the peek panel. Open the primer when you want the full write-up.
- Rate yourself honestly (Shaky → Fluent) and tick Still fragile on anything you want to revisit. Your ratings stay in this browser only.
- Come back via Progress. Suggested digs ranks fragile and shaky topics by how much of the syllabus rests on them — that is your dig-in list.
The Spine Map
28 nodes (topics and sub-topics), prerequisite edges, and 175 official IB linking questions. The map and the primer pages share the same data — what you see as “what this rests on” on a primer is exactly what the map draws.
- Click a node → peek panel (big idea, prerequisites, linking questions, Bridge links, your rating).
- Open the primer from the panel when you want the full nine-section write-up.
- Lenses (Confidence, Blast radius, Bridge, …) are optional views. Spine is the default — explore lenses once you know the layout.
- On a phone, use the drill-down list; open the fullscreen map only if you want the canvas.
Bridge (GCSE → IB)
Places where a GCSE mental model gets silently replaced at IB — especially the high-damage redefinitions. The Bridge lens on the map colours nodes by that risk. Read Bridge early if you are coming from GCSE; it is the highest-leverage part of this site before class starts.
Your progress stays yours
Ratings, fragile flags, notes and open questions live in this browser only — never uploaded, never in the public repo. Use Export on Progress to keep a JSON backup on your computer or a private drive. Do not commit export files to GitHub.
Official vs editorial
Linking questions and syllabus titles are official IB. Prerequisite edges, one-big-idea lines, and Bridge essays are editorial — useful orientation, not a substitute for your teacher or the guide. Primers marked “not yet checked by Maks” are waiting for your own review as you go; that label is a to-do, not a warning to ignore the page.
